Sandvik stainless steel
The Sandvik stainless steel 12C27 (developed by OPINEL) is known by his cutting edge and easy maintenance. The steel contains a carbon content of at least 0.40% which allows the blade to obtain a very satisfying cutting experience without being susceptible to corrosion.
The traditional blade of OPINEL is called Yatagan blade. This shape is inspired by a Turkish saber. The blade is ground by an exclusive curved profile which ensures the toughness of the blade and allows efficient usage.
Beech wood is the most used wood for the manufacture of Opinel handles. Born of French farms, it is hard, strong and easy to work. From a homogeneous appearance, light color varies from yellow to pink. It is recognizable by the presence of many small dark features. The handle is painted to be better protected against moisture and dirt.
Invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel, the safety ring "Virobloc" is being used by all OPINEL knives (from No. 06). Made out of stainless steel, "Virobloc" consists of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safety use), it is now possible to lock the blade in the closed position (carry).
