Two Israeli submarines beard the name INS Dolphin. The first Dolphin was a T class British submarine and was purchased from the Royal navy in 1967 (formerly HMS Truncheon). The Dolphin arrived at Haifa, her new home port in February 1968 under the command of LTC Abraham Ivan Dror. It served in the Israeli navy until 1975.
The 2nd Dolphin is the first Dolphin class submarine. It is the conventional submarine of the 21st century and is one of the most advanced diesel-electric submarines in the world. The submarines were built in Germany. The Dolphin is totally automated and computer integrated. The Dolphin was commissioned in the year 1998 and arrived at her home port, Haifa on October of the same year under the command of LTC Eyal Ben Zion.
